Bungie Immortalizes Destiny Fan With Rare Genetic Disorder In Destiny 2

Make-A-Wish recipient Cristian asked Bungie to recreate his beloved dog Artemis in Destiny 2, to celebrate their life-changing friendship, and the company is making that a reality

Bungie immortalized this relationship in the game through an emote called “Loyal Companion,” which showcases the player’s guardian petting a Belgian Malinois, like Artemis. The codex entry for the Mind Shard sparrow also provides a quietly moving short story about Cristian’s Destiny 2 character, Prime-40, and Artemis. Outside of the game, Bungie made an adorable plush of Artemis, available in the Bungie Store. Proceeds from the emote and the plush go to the Bungie Foundation.

Cristian has a rare, and often deadly, genetic disorder which caused problems with his kidneys. He underwent his first surgery when he was 17 days old and spent the first five years of his life in hospitals. A kidney transplant helped him stabilize, but recovery was a still an incredibly difficult process.

In a brief and impactful documentary Bungie released about Cristian and the Make-A-Wish project, Cristian discussed both his relationship with the game and with Artemis. He particularly emphasized playing the game with friends and the connective power of the community saying, “Destiny to me isn’t just a game. It’s taught me a lot of stuff… it’s because of the people I met along the way.”

Artemis similarly offered a source of comfort in dark times. Looking back, Cristian described a desire to give up on his often difficult and painful life, but “[Artemis] made me think the world wasn’t so bad, that things weren’t so bad after all.” Anyone who has had a close relationship to a pet or service animal knows the impact that friendship can have. Cristian’s story is a moving example of how much that connection can mean.

Cristian plans to attend Texas State University and hopes to join Bungie’s narrative team.

One of the most highly-requested features from the community since the launch of Hogwarts Legacy has been a Photo Mode. The ability to capture unique images of characters, locations, or scenes is an invaluable part of the open-world experience in gaming. While many fans thought the idea of a Photo Mode in Hogwarts Legacy was dead, the recent summer update changed that.

Joker 2 Gets R Rating, Features Brief Full Nudity

Like the 2019 film, this October’s Joker: Folie a Deux will be rated R. The Motion Picture Association has listed a rating for the highly anticipated sequel and also gave some clues about why it received that rating.

Joker: Folie a Deux will have “some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality, and brief full nudity,” the ratings board said, as reported by Variety.

For comparison, the earlier film was rated R for “strong bloody violence, disturbing behavior, language, and brief sexual images.”

Folie a Deux, which means a “delusion or mental illness shared by two people in close association,” stars Joaquin Phoenix as Joker, with Lady Gaga joining the cast as Harley Quinn. Phoenix won the Best Actor Academy Award for his portrayal of Arthur Fleck/Joker in the first movie.

Zazie Beetz also returns from the 2019 movie, with Oscar-nominated actors Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener joining the cast.

Japan Just Made History By Landing On The Moon But There Is Some Bad News Too

Japan has become only the fifth country in the history of the world to land on the Moon, but it wasn’t all good news, as the lander might have run out of power.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced that its Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) successfully touched down on the moon’s surface on January 20. The space agency was able to establish communication with the craft when it landed. However, JAXA said the solar cells on the craft are “not generating power.”

In another statement, JAXA said the SLIM’s battery only had 12% remaining when it touched down. It was disconnected to avoid being unable to restart as the space agency hopes for favorable sunlight conditions to power it up. SLIM’s solar cells are facing west, which gives the craft a chance of catching some rays.

“Until power was switched off after landing, the technical and image data acquired during the landing descent and on the lunar surface were successfully transmitted,” JAXA …
